Frequently Asked Questions
Should I put water in the cage?
Animals cannot travel with a full water bowl. Fill a plastic bottle with water and freeze it, and the condensation will form on the outside.
Do we feed the animal?
Only a light meal is recommended a few hours prior to travel. If your animal soils the crate, you will be required to return to AaE and clean the crate prior to travel. Animals will not be loaded for travel if they soil the crate.
Medication for dog?
Please ask your vet. Most customers believe if their dog travels well in a car, then no medication is needed.
Is the cargo hold cold?
The temperature is the same as what is upstairs in the cabin.
Why lodge at 90min prior?
There is a system lockout of 60 minutes prior to a flight and we allow an extra 30 minutes for our staff to process the lodgement.
What size crate do we need?
Your animal must be able to stand up and turn around in the crate without any difficulty and must also be able to lie down comfortably.
Can we put two animals together?
Only if the cage is big enough and both animals are of the same size (under 12kgs each) and get along well.
Reptiles how do we pack them?
Snakes under 60cm must be bagged, goose necked and in a hard plastic box. A snake over 60cm and any lizards must be bagged, goose necked and in a wooden box.
Where are the animals put after lodgement?
They are safely housed outside our front counter until it is time to take them to the aircraft.
Does AaE supply a crate?
We only sell small or medium sized crates. You can hire a crate from a pet transportation company and they will drop off the crate at the airport for you.
Can we pay ahead?
No we can only accept payment when the animal is at the airport.
Can I pay for someone else to lodge in another port?
Yes, however you must be at the receiving port at the same time as the sender is in the sending port.
How many animals can I take as 'accompanied travel?'
A passenger is allowed two small crates or one medium or one large per person. There is no limitation for animals travelling 'unaccompanied'. If you are a member of the canine, feline or the pigeon association then you are allowed three crates at a discounted rate.
If I am a Qantas traveller and do not have any luggage, does my animal travel for free?
No there will be a charge to use AaE and the amount depends on the weight of the animal.
Can a greyhound dog travel with a passenger?
All racing greyhounds will be charged as unaccompanied unless a certificate of retirement is provided.
